Reclamation 🐦‍🔥 Part 1 is Available

Hey Reader,

Last week I sent you a message on Day 2 of the Rest + Reclamation Retreat that was pre-written and scheduled for you to receive at our regularly scheduled day and time.

I’m already dreaming of going back as it exceeded every expectation I had. I’ll be honest, I had only really thought about my own rest going in. I knew I’d be with Black women. What I didn’t anticipate was how our host, and the four facilitators would truly be one circle of 20.

The days had an ebb and flow: wake and nourish as we wish, circle up in the morning, come back together for dinner, and everything in between was up to us.

Group offerings if we wanted them, one-on-one time with a therapist and a restorative yoga instructor if we didn’t or just flow with our own rest needs. In the final circle, someone said this experience was “motherf*cking life-changing,” and I felt that in my bones.

What I’m carrying home is reclamation. Stillness. My spiritual gifts and my soul work, and clarity about where I can really have an impact.

And I’m no longer fighting or playing a game that no one wins.

That might be the biggest transformation of all.

Which feeds right into what I did Wednesday. I went live and started a new 5-part series, How to Stop Your Co-Parent from Ruining Your Day, under my Parenting Across Two Homes playlist on YouTube. You can subscribe here!

Part one is a story I’ve never told before. It’s an act of healing, and I’m unlearning silence while I tell it. I’m vulnerable, raw, a little nervous having it out in the world while also being really proud of myself.

I am proud of how I showed up in integrity with my values, and of this new framing around loving accountability: the questions we ask ourselves before conversations or storytelling that involve other people, being mindful of impact, and knowing we don’t need permission to speak our truth.

I’d deeply appreciate you witnessing, even if you don’t relate to the topic. It’s my hope that the radical honesty I model inspires you to also be honest with yourself. I am curious:

🪄 How can you reclaim your agency to speak your truth?

Hit reply and share your reflections. I read and reply to each one.

May you no longer wait for permission to speak your truth!

Hey Reader, Reclamation is easier to proclaim than to live. 😅 I came home from the retreat glowing, naming stillness and no longer fighting. This week's Chase Center Watch Party Joy! Then, the mamaverse tapped me on the shoulder and asked, "Are you sure?!" And honestly, that's how it goes. You get tested on whether you mean it. My test showed up this week as a big change for my kid all while getting sick: a house move, and a new person moving into the other home. Shifting dynamics. What I'm...

Hey Reader, By the time you read this, I'll be at a Rest + Reclamation Retreat for 4 days with 14 fellow Black women activists, sponsored, held, resting on purpose. Here's how I got here. The same dear friend who thanked me for my authenticity a couple weeks back is the one who nominated me for this opportunity. In fact, I found out about it and the next steps while I was in bed with COVID, and my first thought was… 💭 How am I going to be sick and out of commission for ten days and then go...

The Temperance Card from Daughter's of the Moon Tarot

Hey Reader, Last week's email felt intense looking back at it, and this week I want to talk about something quieter: temperance. How I've been tempering what I'm building next, and a lot more of the behind-the-scenes than usual. Turns out, I really stepped into my Temperance energy by being honest with my kid about my need and why it was important to do so. The details are less important than the lesson that parenting is reminding me of the countless opportunities to temper all the elemental...
