Love and heartbreak for country 💔 🇺🇸

Reader, I have been sitting with an uncomfortable duality over the last week. ❤️‍🔥

I am a daughter and a granddaughter of the American Revolution. 🇺🇸

That part is confirmed.

That means my maternal lineage traces back 250 years. My mom has the certificate framed. I have never formally applied. Nonetheless, it’s been traced that far back. Let that sit for a moment. 250 years.

Now juxtapose, starting the process to re-educate myself (a Black queer mama) alongside my daughter (a Black girl) and wife (a Black queer woman) of the authentic start—1619.

By watching the docuseries of the same name on Juneteenth. 🖤 An intentional choice to reclaim our history and celebrate our Black heritage. We’re only one episode in yet taking our time to pause and ask/answer questions.

Fast forward to this weekend, our nation marked the 250 year milestone while I could not fully celebrate where we are right now.

💔 Trans athletes being banned from high school sports.

💔 The federal order targeting DEI as discrimination.

💔 Still at 44 being undervalued and underpaid.

I am not entirely sure what my work looks like next. And, I am rooted and ready for what I am calling in this month as we move into Q3.

And what I know for sure: community care is the antidote ❤️‍🩹

That’s the Justice part.

The clear-eyed refusal to pretend everything is fine while being supported by family, close friends, and community. 🥹

Here is the Joy 🤩 This week I convened the new room in the Lovelution Lab community—The Human Systems Lab.

The next day, I took a three hour nap. An actual three hour nap. I rode the wave of flow and flexibility in a week without my kid (yay to not making daily camp lunch and driving back/forth to Berkeley 😅). I also cared for my wife as she recovers from surgery.

In flow. In tending to the people I love. In rest. In building something of my own. That is where the joy showed up. 💖

Both of these are true at once.

That is the whole practice—flow amidst multiplicity.

I do not have this country figured out. I do not have my next chapter fully mapped. But I know I have the agency to drive the ship. And I know both are still all an experiment.

If you are a practitioner in the work of equity, culture, and belonging, The Human Systems Lab is open.🚪 Come find your people. 💫

And if you are sitting in your own knot right now, tangled in what is next, unsure how the pieces fit, I want to help you untangle it.

I’ve got the thoughtful questions and will commit to actively listening, which means I reflect what I hear, validate your emotions, and then turn my strategy brain on to guide your untangling process.

Schedule Your Insight Session 🗓️

90 minutes. Just you, me, and the knot. 🪢

🔗 Find your time!

Let’s untangle before the end of July.

I even have availability this week. 😎

Rooted in love. Blooming in liberation. 🌻

Hey Reader, The last 7 days knocked me sideways. Last week, I wrote you a message that I planned to send after taking a nap. That nap ended up being 3 hours long and I accepted that rest was the priority. Then by Monday, I was not feeling any better and decided to test for COVID. Welp, this mama tested positive!! 16 days into the new school year, and all of my plans got smaller out of necessity instead of choice, including parenting my daughter this week. Eclipse season asked for surrender,...

Nothing Changes If Nothing Changes

Hey Reader, I planned to send this to you on Friday, I even attended a co-working sess for accountability. And instead of pushing, I allowed the day to be one of collaborative synergy that turned into an afternoon in the sun, drinking an adult slushie along with chips and gauc! 🥑⚡️😎 Even so, I’ll be honest with you—my heart has felt heavy ❤️🔥 Between Nolan Wells heavenly birthday 🕊️and the seventh Black individual found hung from a tree. As a Black mama, my heart breaks to type that sentence,...

Camping at the Beach

Reader, from community, collaborators, and conversations with potential clients to some low-tech family time in one of my favorite spots in the world. Here’s a photo from the past so that you can imagine where I am today as this lands in your inbox: Wherever you are in this moment, let this be a moment to take a deep breath and center on what’s in your sphere of influence. Feel your feet on the ground. Or in my case, the sand in my toes. Ask yourself 🪄 What do you need now? Water? A hug? A...
